In the early afternoon, neighbors assembled at the scene of the accident on 22nd Avenue in Spanaway. Johnny Simpers described being awakened by the crash, arriving before rescue vehicles and providing assistance at the scene with other neighbors from across the street. Sometimes that early assistance can save lives. KING TV was on the site at the time as he related what happened.

Nearby was Kyle Ernst, surveying the new fence their family had just installed in front of their house. Almost every single post was torn out, except for the one he had put orange tape on for visibility. The truck, travelling at a high rate of speed, ripped through 100 feet of front fence, hit a 12 inch diameter cedar tree, uprooting it and flipping the truck. Additional fir trees stopped the truck from slamming into a nearby mobile home. The resident in that home was in the back bedroom asleep according to neighbor Johnny Simpers.
The names of the victims have not yet been released. Thank you to the heroes that arrived on the scene.
