School/Community Clean-ups
On Saturday, Sept. 8, Graham-Kapowsin High School, Spanaway Middle School, and Liberty Middle School will be the focus of a beautification effort by community and church members. The clean-up runs from 8 a.m. to Noon.
Also, this weekend, Graham-Kapowsin High School senior and Eagle Scout candidate Joseph Shields is organizing a separate effort to spruce up a district-owned home in the Graham area. The district uses the home to support homeless teens.
District recognized for communication efforts
Bethel School District received four awards this summer from the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA). The district’s annual Technology and Art Fair ‘Possibilities 2012,’was the recipient of a Golden Achievement Award.The awardrecognizes exemplary work in all aspects of school public relations, communication, marketing and engagement. Bethel also took Awards of Excellence for the 2011/12 District Calendar & Student Handbook and a special purpose publication called ‘The Summer Math Experience.’ The Bethel Pride received an Honorable Mention. The NSPRA Publications and Electronic Media Awards is a national contest open to all public schools, private schools, and districts. The contest recognizes outstanding education publications (print and electronic), video/TV/radio programs, CD/DVD information materials and websites. Entries are judged according to the publication category and type and size of district and/or organization. Last year, the district received a Golden Achievement Award for the Pierce County Skills Center Marketing Campaign and three other publication awards for the district calendar, the Bethel Pride and a recruitment guide for Human Resources. The National School Public Relations Association has been a leading provider of school communication training and services to school leaders throughout the United States and Canada since 1935.
