Bethel High reaches 60 and the class photos are returning

New standardized class photos are being put up this monthBethel High is celebrating 60 years this month! This September, the new digitized class photos will be going up in the main hallways of BHS.

Two years ago, principal Cliff Anderson started his first year as principal by cleaning up the school. This included removing a great deal of old graffiti, tiles in the attendance office, photos that many teachers had posted in their classrooms, a considerable amount of old student and staff artwork and most class donated art such as the totem poles, murals and portraits of Daffodil princesses.

Totem poles in their new location

There was an outcry from several graduates and the district formed a committee of alumni some of which were also staff and teachers. This Display Committee made several decisions regarding the items removed. For the most part, they strongly urged the district to have the items returned, although they allowed the locations of some of the items to be changed. Two years ago, the three totem poles were placed in the mezzanine between the gym and the theater. Last year display cases were put up to hold the sports memorabilia. But the class photos still sat in the dark in room 119.

Since that time, the Communications and Operations departments, along with BHS, have been working collaboratively to digitize and standardize the old senior portraits. Many of the old pictures had faded and were falling into disrepair. The committee chose to standardize the frame size and fit the photos to those frames. Some of the photo frames are now in place in the main hallway from the office to the theater. The rest of the photos are expected to be up in the next few weeks.

Katey Jay, sophomore on the swim team, Elisabeth Minor, junior on the varsity golf team and Katalynn Sutton a senior on the swim team, were caught admiring the items in the sports photo display cases

Happy 60th Bethel High!
