A toddler climbed out of his house at the edge of Spanaway Lake and drowned in the water last night. Authorities were called to the scene around 7:15 p.m. at the SE corner of the lake on 6th Avenue Court S.

The toddler was found by his 9 year old brother, who screamed for help according to sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer.

A neighbor nearby with a rowboat tried CPR, which Central Pierce firefighters continued when they arrived, but the boy later succumbed at St. Clare Hospital about 8:15 p.m., Troyer said.

The toddler has been identified as 21 month old Anthony Shutt.
