Varsity Pizza on the way from Spanaway to Eatonville

I ordered to go, but ended up staying. This is a small garlic chicken pizza.

If you’ve just driven out of Spanaway, down the Mountain Highway headed toward Eatonville and suddenly you realize, “Oh, my gosh, I’m pretty hungry,”  you are no longer going to have to drive more than 30 minutes before you reach town to find some good food. Kevin Stephens has opened Varsity Pizza at 32619 Mountain Highway East.

This writer was driving out the highway late one Friday night a couple weeks ago and noticed a pile of cars spilling over onto the edge of SR7 at that location. So she stopped and asked a neighbor what all the excitement was about. “Is it good?” she asked. The neighbor answered, “Yes, it’s really good!”

So this Friday night, the car just sort of turned in to see what all the excitement was about. After ordering a small chicken garlic pizza, I turned around and spotted Bruce Lachney behind me. Bruce had brought his family out from Rapjohn Lake and a long day of harvesting cranberries. He ordered a large cheese pizza and an Hawaiian. I asked him if their pizza was good. He replied, “Oh yes.”

So I sat down at the table with the Lachney family and in walked former Senator Marilyn Rasmussen. Apparently this place already has a locally star-studded clientele. Everyone who is anyone just might want to check it out if  you haven’t already. They also deliver, 253-846-9999. Wow, pizza delivery out in what other pizza places call no man’s land.

Three cheers for Kevin Spencer! The Post hopes you do well. Every community deserves great pizza, even Lacamas. Tell Kevin hello when you go in and tell him you read about him in the Post!
