BETHEL SCHOOL DISTRICT — The Secondary School Boundary Committee has just finished a draft proposal for the adjustment of middle and high school boundaries. Now, the district would like to get some feedback from families.
Public forums have been scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 30, 6:30 p.m. in the Clover Creek Elementary School cafeteria and Thursday, Nov. 1 at 6:30 p.m. in the Liberty Middle School cafeteria. At the forums, committee members will be on hand to explain the draft proposal and large maps of current and proposed boundaries will be available for public review. Written comments will be accepted at the forums and can also be mailed to the Bethel School District, Attention: Dr. Rob Van Slyke, at 516 – 176th St. E., Spanaway, WA, 98387-8399.
The Secondary School Boundary Committee, a representative group of community members, with the assistance of school district staff, has been studying a change in middle and high school attendance areas. The project was initiated in order to address issues related to continued growth in student population and to adjust boundaries in accommodating the move of ninth graders to the high school this year, as well as, sixth graders to the middle schools for the 2013/14 school year.

The school board will consider a final proposal from the committee and receive public testimony at its regular meetings on Nov. 20 and Dec. 11 before finalizing the boundary adjustments. If approved, the changes would be take effect at the start of the next school year.
