Winterfest is an event for people in need. The 23rd Annual Parkland Children’s Winterfest will be taking place December 8. Organized by Pacific Lutheran University, this event is sponsored by several local non-profit organizations who provide money, clothing and blankets to be distributed to the lucky children in families who have been selected by local social service organizations to receive the much-needed winter supplies.
Ginger Peck, Director of Auxiliary Service s at PLU, has arranged with many local organizations to help put on this event. If you or your organization would like to make further contributions, you are welcome to contact her at 253-535-7885 or peckgj@plu.edu.
According to the PLU letter, they partner “with community minded organizations in Parkland and Spanaway to provide coats, socks, hats, books, Christmas gifts, and a holiday experience to 1000+ children from 500 pre-screened underprivileged families. These families primarily reside in the Spanaway and Parkland area. The following non-profit organizations hand-select families who are not receiving duplicative community services: Head Start Program, Parkland Family Support Center, MOM’s Women & Recovery Program, Franklin Pierce School District, and Bethel School District.”
PLU is working hard to make sure the needs of the community are served and not duplicated. If you know someone in need, direct them to the agencies listed so they can be approved to participate.
