BETHEL SCHOOL DISTRICT — The school board will host a public hearing on the plan to change secondary boundaries at their regular meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 11 at the Educational Services Center (district office). The meeting starts at 7 p.m.
Complete maps of all secondary boundaries are available at: http://www.bethelsd.org/services/secondary_boundary_study. The Board will hold another hearing on secondary boundaries Dec. 11. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the Educational Services Center.
During the boundary revision process, the district is attempting to even out and, hopefully, maintain consistent enrollment levels for the next five years (through 2018-19). There is also a desire to continue offering direct feeder schools from elementary to middle and high schools. Other considerations are safety and routing of buses, proximity of housing developments to schools, minimizing split neighborhoods and student diversity, if possible.
Rebalancing student populations is necessary because of ongoing growth in the district, as well as changes in grade configuration.
The board is expected to formally vote on the boundary changes at its December meeting. If approved the changes would take effect at the start of the 2013-14 school year.
