When Pierce Transit reduced its boundaries, the sales tax collected outside the boundaries should have dropped from 9.4% to 8.8%. This was effective through the Department of Revenue on October 1st.
The boundary is South of 176th (WinCo and Rite Aid are outside the area now but Wendy’s and Walgreens are still within the boundary).
State law requires that these boundaries be along precinct lines. If you have any doubt about your location, you can call Julie Anderson County Auditor, give them your address and ask if you are within the Pierce Transit boundaries. Or you can go on the Department of Revenue website and check sales and use tax rates (You can put your address in and it will come up with your tax rate.)
Some of the big corporate businesses didn’t notice the change and are still charging 9.4%. Safeway in Graham has the correct rate.
