Franklin Pierce Schools receives $40,000 from Pierce County Violence Prevention program

Franklin Pierce Schools was recently notified that an award of $40,000 was given by Pierce County Violence Prevention funds. This is the second year that Franklin Pierce Schools has received such a grant.

The funds will be used to support the Intervention Case Manager (ICM) program. The ICM program focuses on providing prevention services in the secondary schools to youth who are at risk for participating in violent behaviors and activities, engaging in substance abuse, and/or other destructive behaviors, all of which can impact academic success and long term life outcomes. Youth are most frequently identified by schools based on attendance, behavior and/or grades although youth, families or staff can refer a youth to the program for any reason. Case management includes identifying barriers to success and creating plans for overcoming them. The ICM program uses basic case management techniques of problem identification and referral, and connects youth and families to services both in the schools and the community. As part of the program, the Violence Prevention funds can be used to meet basic, transportation and hygiene needs of students in the program.
