Today, as I was out and about the neighborhood I realized there are a lot of people we see every day that aren’t necessarily creating a story, but interesting enough to mention as part of our daily lives. So this is a new column that I will submit occasionally through the week as I move about our communities and spot some of you in action.
Today’s first shout out is for the elderly man in a wheelchair who took on rush hour traffic alone on Pacific Avenue by the Spanaway McDonalds. Southbound traffic was stopped, so he headed out bet

ween cars into the two-way left turn lane, cautiously because someone could have taken him out quickly there. Thank you to the car that stopped and blocked the lane. The only pizza we wanted to see was across the street at Pizza Hut. And a BIG thank you to the two northbound cars that just got the green light, but stopped and allowed him to finish crossing. By the time I got my camera working, he was safely across the street. Phew!
Standing on the corner of Pacific Avenue and Military Road, in front of the parks department readerboard, the die-hard gold buyer sign waving guy, waving his sign with far too many words to read while getting drenched by the rainfall.
On Valentines Day, I visited Midland Manor and played a game of Bingo. Managing to get the very first Bingo didn’t have much meaning as it turns out they play until everyone has not only gotten a Bingo, but also blacked-out their cards. Then, everyone gets a prize. I like they way they play Bingo. I’m sure Grammy won’t mind if I come back and play again.
Last but not least, Vega, thank you for making my dinner tonight at JR’s Whistlestop. You don’t get a lot of recognition out there in the kitchen because your boisterous waitresses steal the show. Speaking of show, the hypnotist last night was a packed room and a great time for everyone. Tomorrow morning, JR’s will host the 723 Networking Group full of local business people that want to make sure they also help make Spanaway a better community for everyone. The Post supports everyone who believes in community!
