City of Roy to update customer water meters

At the Roy City Council meeting Monday, the may discussed the changing of water meters in the city. About two months ago, they replaced and re-set the meters on the city well. With the newly accurate data, they found that the usage at the well was far greater than the billed usage in the community.

So the city is embarking on leak detection and a water meter replacement schedule.

In December, the gallons they measured through the well meters were 1,253,280 and the gallons billed were 1,075,677. That’s a loss of 177,603 gallons or about 2/3 the amount in the PLU swimming pool, in one month.

In January, the gallons they measured through the well meters were 1,214,590.  The gallons billed were 1,173,292, a difference of 41,298 gallons, according to City Clerk, Debbie Dearinger.

According to Mayor Karen Yates, the city plans to replace about 10% of the meters each year.
