Native American 3rd annual lobby day spearheaded by local residents

on

I began with the Day of 1000 drums three years ago. Robert Satiacum, a greater Roy (Lacamas) resident, decided to continue the pursuit of a more local name for what we call Mt. Rainier. He began to learn the ins and outs of the legislative process with the assistance of some local Democratic party members. They realized that although many groups have official “lobby days” at the legislature, our indigenous population did not.

The first even, 3 years ago, they tried providing some entertainment by drumming in the rotunda. When security told them  have to leave for outside, they learned there was a process for signing up to provide entertainment and/or prayer in that particular public place. The next  year, they jumped through the right hoops and things went more smoothly.

This year, March 13, is the date for the 3rd Native American Lobby Day. The Post will be there and update with some photos later tonight.NALobbyday2
