At the Midland Community Association meeting in April, the featured speaker was Elliot Stockstad from Habitat for Humanity. The organization has started a new development in Midland called The Woods. They are currently seeking applicants that have incomes in their criteria range of approximately $21,050-$35,100 annual income. The information below is from a flyer about The Woods.
The Woods at Golden Given will bring the development of 30 houses for low-income homeownership just south of the city of Tacoma (104th St. & Golden Given East). Plans for The Woods include single family residences placed closely together in a cottage style layout, with central open space, a common house and shared community amenities, including playgrounds, a community garden, a sports field and a wetland with a boardwalk. As with other projects, Habitat for Humanity will incorporate sustainable building practices into the design and construction of The Woods, including the use of rain gardens, the retention and recycling of trees, and wetland mitigation. All homes built at The Woods will be Energy Star certified.
