We need YOUR help to preserve critical beach habitat now!
Well we have submitted a grant to the Pierce County Conservation Futures process to help to get funds to purchase an important piece of nearshore habitat with viable eelgrass beds.
We are required to have 10% matching funds which is $2,100.00 in order to qualify for this grant.
We are asking people and entities/businesses to donate to us with a specific header-Funds for Beach Acquisition for these matching funds.
If we do not succeed in getting the grant, the funds will be returned to you. We need to have the funds in June. Please donate; if you need further information feel free to call or e-mail us.
You can donate by mailing or bringing a check to the office by using the pay pal link on our website athttp://pugetcreek.org

Monthly Seminar Series, Saturday May 4th
Join us for our Monthly, 1st Saturday seminar series.
This month’s seminar is Birds and Mammals of Puget Creek-Oh My, what was that?â€
Robert Niese and Mary Krauszer are educators at the Slater Museum where they teach natural history lessons to elementary school and college-age students. They will be talking about mammal and bird traces and sounds. The talk will focus on learning how to recognize and “see” animals that are rarely seen (tracks, scats, dens, nests, feathers, food scraps, sounds, etc.) and will include hands-on interactions with real specimens from the collection.
The seminar is held from Noon to 2:00 PM at our office. Please call Scott at (253) 779-8890 or emailpcrs@pugetcreek.org to let us know you are coming.
Docents and assistants needed for our Watershed Adventures program
Like working with kids?
Interested in gaining teaching experience?
Want to learn more about our local environment?
Want to share your love of the outdoors and work in environmental advocacy?
If so, working with our Watershed Adventures program as a docent is for you.
Watershed Adventures is a program that provides hands on outdoor education, free of charge for 4th and 5th grade students in the Tacoma and nearby school districts.
The students come out to Puget Creek and progress through four stations. They will learn about Trees and their importance and aspects; Water Quality; Stream Habitat characteristics and finally Native vs. non-native invasive plants and the similarities and identifying characteristics.
We will train you in presenting and instructing in all these 4 areas and when a class is scheduled. Docents will take out groups of 7-8 students and instruct for 45 minutes at each station.
If you can not commit to a full training schedule, being an assistant is a great way to get your feet wet in environmental education.
If you are interested, please contact Lisa at (253) 779-8890 or by emailing wa@pugetcreek.org
