May 15 event to celebrate tunnel construction activities in Pierce County

on

Nearly 100 community and business leaders will gather May 15 at the FPS EnCon Precast plant in Frederickson to celebrate Pierce County’s job-creating connection to the state’s SR 99 tunnel project in Seattle.

Approximately 1,450 precast concrete rings will line the tunnel, and all of those rings will be fabricated at the newly expanded plant in the Frederickson industrial area. The project is the result of extraordinary collaboration among companies from around the world as well as the local community. The plant itself is an engineering playground, as concrete carried by the “Flying Bucket” flows to a mold, the Concrete Cabin, and the three-lane curing tunnel. This is a highly visual story with a significant “by the numbers” component.

The program begins at 10 a.m., followed by a tour of the plant.
