The First Lady Presented National Medal to Pierce County Library System
First Lady Michelle Obama presented the National Medal for Museum
and Library Service to Pierce County Library System in a White House ceremony on Wednesday, May 9. Community member Jo Cruz and Pierce County Library System Executive Director Neel Parikh accepted the award. The National Medal is the nation’s highest honor recognizing museums and libraries for service to community. The award celebrates institutions that make a difference for individuals, families, and communities.

Board of Trustees Meeting: May 15
At its May meeting Pierce County Library System’s Board of Trustees will hear about the Library’s National Medal award and Innovations Initiative proposals. The Board will also discuss a policy about naming buildings and areas and review other issues. The Board of Trustees will meet at the Library’s Processing and Administrative Center, 3005 112th St. E., in Tacoma, on Wednesday, May 15, from 3:30 to 6 p.m. The meetings are open to the public.
