Superintendent Tom Seigel took the time to honor many employees and a few community members who have been instrumental in helping the district with special projects.
Among those mentioned and honored were the Bethel History Day team who took the state honors recently and Kiara Crandall, a freshman, who placed first at Project Unity (a joint high school talent contest) and played her own composition at the meeting. Donna Saling, a staff member who helps organize the ABC day received Bethel’s Volunteer of the Year Award.
A Superintendent’s Partnership Award – Career Technical Education, was given to Jeff Moore, Vice President of Operations at AIM Aerospace Inc. who volunteers to assist the Pierce County Skills Center with their Aerospace Composites course. Greg Rohr, who teaches the composites course received the Superintendent’s Superior Service Award. A service pin was presented to PCSC Principal Michelle Ledbetter.
The board also appointed David Hammond as Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Schools, effective July 1, 2013. Hammond replaces Dr. Roger Samples, who will retire at the end of the year.
Bryan Streleski was appointed as Director of Athletics and Security, effective July 1, 2013. Dan Heltsey is also retiring at the end of the school year. Heltsey was recently inducted into the Washington State School Athletic Administrator Hall of Fame this year.
Videos of the CTE program and the Alternative Learning programs were presented along with a few photos from the first Bethel Community Open Market on May 11 at the Bethel Learning Center.
