JoAnne Matson passed away June 22, 2013 at age 84. She was born in Alhambra, CA on May 31, 1929 to Gluck W. Riley and Ellen Brock Riley. She moved to Seattle in 1941 with her mother. JoAnne married Emerson N. Matson Jan. 10, 1948. He preceded her in death.

She served on the Franklin Pierce School Board for 39 years. The JoAnne Matson Administrative Center Building for the Franklin Pierce School District is named for her.

She is survived by sons William and Robert, and daughter Mariellen. She is also survived by her grandchildren Geoffrey, Michael, Lindsay, and Emerson, and great-granddaughter Jane.

A memorial service will be held at Our Savior Lutheran Church Saturday, June 29, at 1 pm. JoAnne wishes that a monetary gift to the Matson Memorial Scholarship Fund, or Our Savior Lutheran Church in Tacoma, or Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Vancouver, WA be given in lieu of flowers.
