Tacoma, WASHINGTON (02 July 2013) — The Franklin Pierce School District has a vacancy on its School Board. The vacancy will be filled by appointment within the next 90 days.
The vacancy occurred as a result of the resignation of Mrs. Reva Palmer on July 2, 2013, after 14 years of dedicated service to the students, staff, and community of the Franklin Pierce School District.
Eligibility requirements specify that the person appointed to the position on the Board must reside within Director District No. 1, which in general covers the enrollment areas for Christensen Elementary School and James Sales Elementary School.
Persons interested in applying for appointment to the position should obtain an application from the school district office, located at 315 129th Street South, Tacoma, WA 98444, or by calling 253-298-3000. Applications will be accepted at the district office until 4:00 p.m. on August 1, 2013.
The four remaining members of the Board will review the applications received and conduct interviews on August 20, 2013 during a special Board meeting. The selected Board member will be sworn in during the September 10, 2013 regular Board meeting.
The newly appointed Board member will serve through the current term, which expires in November of 2015, and have the option to file for election for the following term.
The school district’s Board of Directors is made up of five persons elected by voters district-wide. Each director represents a specific district within the boundaries of the Franklin Pierce School District. Directors are elected for four-year terms.
