PIERCE TRANSIT, LAKEWOOD, WA – Thanks to Federal Transit Administration grants for transit center improvements, Pierce Transit will begin facilities improvements at the Parkland Transit Center and Park and Ride on July 29.  The construction project, which will continue through September, will make Pierce Transit’s oldest Transit Center safer and more comfortable for the 2,700 Pierce Transit customers who use the facility daily.  The Park and Ride will be closed during construction and boarding for Routes 1, 45, 55, 204, 410 and SHUTTLE service will be temporarily impacted.

Located off of 121^st Street and Pacific Avenue in Parkland, the Parkland Transit Center is an important link between Pierce Transit’s Route 1 trunk line service and four other routes that currently provide service there.  Pierce Transit will add additional shelters for waiting fixed-route and SHUTTLE customers, improve pedestrian/ADA access and improve lighting and security.  Approximately 71% of the $278,515 project costs are funded by FTA grants that are restricted to facilities improvements and cannot be used for bus service.

Impacts to Route 1 Boarding:  During construction, temporary bus stops for Route 1 will be located on Pacific Avenue and 121^st Street South, on the NE corner for travel toward TCC, and on the SW corner for travel toward SR-7 and 8^th Avenue (Walmart).

Impacts to Routes 45, 55, 204, and 410 Boarding:  Temporary boarding zones for Routes 45, 55, 204 and 410 will be located on 121^st Street South, across the street from the transit center.  Buses will pull into the zone in the order they arrive, so customers will need to watch carefully for their bus.

Impacts to SHUTTLE Boarding: A temporary zone for SHUTTLE customers will be located near the bus boarding zone on 121^st Street South.  Customers should look for signage in that area.
