JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. – Joint Base Lewis-McChord will host four MV-22B (Osprey) tiltrotor aircraft from the Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 161, Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, San Diego, Calif., will operate within the JBLM training areas. The purpose of the training is for the Osprey pilots to practice and maintain proficiency in confined area landings.

DATE    August 19 – 22

TIME     9 a.m. – 7 p.m.

The Marine Corps Osprey training is scheduled, required training, which allows military members to practice and improve skills required during combat.

Increased aviation activity will be noticed from mid-morning through early evening. The training should be concluded by 7 p.m. each day.  The Osprey training will be conducted at various ranges on base. Additionally, the Ospreys will fly to and from Yakima Training Center throughout the week.

Osprey aircraft have been at JBLM in the past to support training. The aircraft are noticeably loud. Residents in these communities near JBLM may be affected by the Osprey training as the aircraft moves in and out of the training area to practice confined area landings:

• Helicopter training area 11 (HTA 11) is south of Spanaway and west of Elk Plain
• Helicopter training area 23 (HTA 23) is south of Lacey

Helicopter training area 19 (HTA 19) is within JBLM restricted area south of the artillery impact area, and training there should have little impact off base.

Residents on and off base may hear the Osprey aircraft as they transition between training areas.
