Bethel door buzzers added for security

SPANAWAY, WA — The Bethel School District is adding some enhanced school security this Fall. After the incident in Connecticut, the district board of directors discussed many possibilities to tighten security and access to the school buildings. At their July 23 meeting, the school board unanimously adopted policy 6609, which allows for new security access systems to be installed at schools throughout the district. The system is designed to better protect students and staff from potential threats and intruders.

During school hours, all school doors will remain locked and access will only be available through the main entrances. To gain access, parents and visitors will have to press a buzzer outside the school. School staff will then use a camera and intercom system to help identify visitors and grant access to the facility.

The added security will hopefully help protect student safety in the schools from outside intruders. The Post staff hopes everyone at Bethel has a happy start to the new school year on Wednesday. It will be the beginning of Middle Schools with 6-7-8. The Post wishes you all well.
