Pierce County will begin replacing the sewer main along Brookdale Road in Parkland Oct. 1. The project is expected to last through February 2015.
Work will begin at the intersection of A Street and 133rd Street East and move north to Brookdale Road. The project, managed by Public Works and Utilities, will continue along Brookdale Road from A Street South to Golden Given Road East.
The county will replace about 5,000 feet of pipe with a 72-inch diameter interceptor pipe. The existing 30-inch diameter sewer pipe is nearing its capacity of 7 million gallons per day, is heavily corroded, and is located in an area affected by high groundwater levels. Groundwater seeps into the sewer pipe, reducing its capacity to carry wastewater.
Traffic will periodically be detoured throughout the work. Signs will be posted when a detour is required and flaggers will assist motorists when necessary. There will be local access during the detours. The county will work with property owners to minimize impacts.

The new pipe will follow Brookdale Rd. E to where it merges with 131st St. E. and continue west to A St. S., where the new pipe will end. To connect to the rest of the sanitary sewer network, a new 36-inch diameter pipe will be installed along A St. S. and connect to the existing pipe at 133rd St. E.
The existing pipe along 133rd St. E. between 8th Ave. E. and A St. will not be affected by the project.
Construction for this project is broken into three phases moving from west to east (see the alignment map).
