Board Highlights

The Bethel School Board is committed to advancing student learning opportunities and educational services within the district’s boundaries.

Received a presentation from director of assessment and highly capable Brian Loffer on preliminary state standardized testing results. His review included district and grade level performance on the Measurement of Student Progress (MSP), High School Proficiency Exams (HSPE), and End of Course Assessments (EOCs). Director Loffer also unveiled the district’s new data dashboard website. The site includes Bethel School District results on local, state and national standardized tests. To access the site, go to http://www.bethelsd.org, click on ‘school board’, then select ‘data dashboard’. www.bethelsd.org

At their October 8 meeting, the Board of Directors…

Approved by a 4-0 decision, the Pierce County Skills Center consent agenda, which allowed for supplemental contractual services to support the new automotive technology program. Presented a Superintendent’s Superior Service Award to former Print Shop Manager Diane Karl. Karl worked in the district for 31 years, before announcing her retirement last month. The award is given to staff who demonstrate superior service to the students and staff of Bethel Public Schools.

Got an update on the district’s community connections program from director Jay Brower.

Brower shared information about the community organizations that the district currently enjoys special partnerships with. The agencies provide health and wellness programs and social services to families in the area. The school board plans to tour these facilities during a study session next week. Adopted by a 4-0 decision, the following policies, procedures, and forms:

• Policy 0550 – FUTURESCHOOLS: A STRATEGIC PLAN 2013-2018 (Updated entire policy)

• Policy, Procedure & Form 3246 – USE OF ISOLATION, RESTRAINT, RESTRAINT DEVICES AND

REASONABLE FORCE (New policy and procedure to comply with new statutory reporting requirements.)
