Graham Kapowsin trounces Bethel 48 to 14

SPANAWAY, WA — Art Crate Stadium was the scene of the big game Friday night. While the Bethel Braves and the Graham Kapowsin Eagles, cross town rivals, met on the turf, the stadium was festive with signs decorations and sales of school colored shirts and accessories.

Before the game, there were three tailgate parties in which visitors could partake, choosing sides, of course.

Inside the stadium, there were two booths, one for each side with Hawaiian Shave Ice raising money for scholarships in the district. These booths were provided by Oak Hills Vegetable Farms/Oak Hills, Inc. coming together with Bethel Sr. High and Graham Kapowsin High School. Their famous “Hawaiian Shave Ice” was served through the entire game. Celia Anne Smallidge, President  and Martin L. Wheeler (BHS ’78), CEO of Oak Hills, Inc.

The first part of the game the score was close, 14 to 21 at halftime. But toward the end of the third quarter, Graham Kapowsin started to get into its groove, scoring touchdown after touchdown. The final was Bethel 14, Graham Kapowsin 48.

GK is on a strong run this year, having won all its games so far. We’re pulling for them to take the state championship. Congratulations, great game.
