Toxics Release Inventory: TRI data

Citizens, community groups, researchers, national environmental organizations, facility managers, and government agencies at all levels rely on TRI as a powerful tool for environmental protection.

Our new report, “TRI in Action,” includes many examples of how people have been putting the Toxics Release Inventory to work:

  • The Sierra  Club of Illinois used TRI data in a campaign to block the permitting of a hazardous waste landfill in Peoria, Illinois.
  • The Environmental Integrity Project used TRI data to identify the top emitters of arsenic to the Emory River in Tennessee, and to campaign for heightened EPA regulation of coal ash ponds.
  • Ford Motor Company uses TRI data to track its progress toward improved environmental  performance as a part of its corporate sustainability initiative.
  • A study by the International Society for Autism Research investigated the relationship between the rates of autism in young children and their proximity to TRI reporting facilities.
