SPANAWAY, WA — A candlelight vigil was held Thursday night on the east side of 162nd and Pacific Avenue for Nga Woodhead, whose death Nov. 5 resulted from injuries sustained in a pit bull attack October 30.
Luminaries lined the sidewalk as over 30 people gathered to remember Nga. Her husband Charles and several family members were in attendance. Nga, born in Saigon, loved taking long walks every day. Her husband said a local Pest Control business on Pacific Avenue that saw her taking her walk every day was the first to send flowers when the news told of her passing. Everyone spoke kindly of her warm demeanor and loving spirit.
Thomas Mason was present at the vigil. He and a friend were driving along Pacific avenue and saw what was happening. He tried to intimidate the dogs to get them to leave Nga alone while hollering for his friend to get his gun from the car. Not being certain he should discharge the weapon, he got another passerby David Magee to fire at the dog. Deputies shot the other dog involved in the attack.
Magee’s wife stopped by the vigil just as they were wrapping up. She teared up a little as she told how her family drove by just at the right time to help out. She hadn’t been aware of the vigil, synchronicity put her there tonight.
Nga and Charles take care of a granddaughter who attends Evergreen Elementary; several teachers were also in attendance.
A memorial service will be held for Nga Woodhead at Fir Lane Memorial Park in Spanaway on Saturday, November 16th at 2:00 p.m.
