Rep. JT Wilcox visits Frederickson

FREDERICKSON, WA — State Representative JT Wilcox paid a visit to the Frederickson Clover Creek Community Council Saturday morning. His visit was part of the effort to keep the community informed about issues and solutions.DSC_1349

A great deal of Rep. Wilcox’s discussion centered around transportation. With an 11.5 cent gas tax under consideration int he legislature, he was curios how the mainly conservative group felt about raising tha gas tax and spending it on traffic issues at he JBLM Main Gate, Thorne Lane for the Cross Base Highway interchange, Highway 167 and some HOV lanes in Pierce County. He was surprised to learn it was supported by most, as long as the money was actually going to be spent on those projects. He quickly learned the greatest angst with taxpayer was the re-routing of money to projects other than the original intent. For example, to pay cost overruns for failed engineering on SR520 bridge pontoons that were mis-built in King county. Taxpayers were willing to pay for what they know they will actually be getting.

Furth discussion concerned funding Cross Park. Rep. Wilcox told the committee to consider applying for a Capitol Project Request. This is something they had not considered before nor were familiar with the process. It was encouraging to think there might be another avenue to make the project a reality.

After Rep, Wilcox spoke, the council held a business meeting in which it was revealed there were several openings on the Frederickson Land Use Advisory Committee. Up to 5 people are needed to fill out the committee which is a fist line of information and defense of the quality of life int he community when out of character construction proposals are made.

On December 10, at 5 p.m., the Frederickson Events Committee will meet at Ricky J’s Restaurant to discuss plans for next year’s Movie Night, Easter Eggstravaganza and Freddy Fest.

At the end of the meeting Bethel Superintendent Tom Seigel spoke about the upcoming February School Levy.
