Alpen glow on a lovely cold November day

SPANAWAY, WA — When the weather is clear and the sun sets through a little smoggy haze, you can see Mount Rainier (Tahoma, T’Swaq) turn a lovely shade of strawberry pink. No, it’s not an advertising gimmick used by the Komen event today; it’s the long red light wavelengths passing through the atmosphere. It’s actually called Alpen glow. But that luscious strawberry color will make you wish there was a maraschino cherry on top and you had a big spoon.

This cold, crisp November day seemed like a good one to catch it up close, especially since the Prairie Post was loaned a great telephoto lens for the weekend.  These photos were taken from 8th Avenue South over Range Area 15 and Muck Creek.
