ROY, WA — A silo at the Wilcox Farms feed mill in Roy collapsed around three p.m. today. Chief Bob Vellias of South Pierce County Fire and Rescue said there are three workers accounted for and one missing. He noted that due to the unstable conditions with the tons of feed and an adjacent silo that is full and leaning, the area is too unstable to conduct a rescue yet.

At 6 p.m. they were waiting for Labor and Industries and an industrial engineer to arrive on site to help stabilize the area so they can begin to remove the feed and start searching for the missing worker. Chief Vellias said it is likely the rescue and cleanup will continue through the night and into the morning. As he spoke a representative from L&I arrived. The family of the missing worker is on site and with the Sheriff’s Chaplain.
The weather is already freezing and snow is predicted overnight.
