ROY, WA — Since the accident December 2nd, the Wilcox Mill has removed four damaged silos. Their employee, Steve Green, the 44 year old former Marine who lost his life, has been commemorated on the city Christmas Tree and on the fence beside the mill. The difference and impact of the accident is quite stark as you can see from this October photograph of the mill.
Swan Creek in Tacoma is already seeing chum salmon. I looked today, but did notice any in Muck Creek yet. Residents might want to start watching for them to come upstream.
While visiting the creek, I noticed a couple taking measurements near the Warren Street bridge. They were representatives from the paving company. They plan to pave the street to the bridge on Tuesday, Dec. 17. Hopefully that means by Wednesday they will open the street up again. A ten mile detour for so many months is far worse than inconvenient for the residents on the north side of the creek. Thank heavens for the footbridge in the park to help them stay attached to the community.
