PARKLAND, WA — Saturday evening, December 28, NPCC on C Street and Garfield in Parkland had a big event to help raise funds for the business to pay its rent. With most PLU students off on Winter break and most other people focused on the holidays, business has been slow.
Earlier in the year, when the old Garfield Street buildings were being torn down, I heard a similar story from another Garfield Street business. The economy has been hard on our small local businesses. When you go out for a treat, remember the small local, non-chain businesses. They are counting on you to patronize their establishments to survive through this economy. Many area businesses have already closed. It’s up to us to think locally and buy from our own neighborhood.
So they next time you need a cup of coffee in Parkland, or want to have a quick beer with friends, stop in NPCC on the corner of Garfield and C Street. They drew a nice crowd on Saturday, so we know they have lots of friends. Be there for them and they will continue to be there for you.
