If you own a home near a body of water anywhere in Pierce County, you should join the Spanaway Lake folks at Spanaway Elementary Thursday, January 16 at 6:30 p.m.
From the organizers:
Hi neighbor, my name is Sherry Haviland, I live on Spanaway Lake in the cove. I’ve received your emails and am notifying you of a very important meeting this Thursday, January 16, 2014 @ Spanaway Elementary School at 6:30 pm. If you own waterfront in the State of Washington, you need to attend this meeting. Department of Ecology is trying to change our 50 foot setbacks to 75 foot buffers or 150 foot buffers. That means DOE wants to retain the 75-150 feet in a natural state. No kidding. This hasn’t been publicized. A new shoreline management plan is in the works. Decisions will be made soon. Pierce County Planning Department is working on this plan. The county council will be voting on this early spring.
Our county council is not in favor of these regulations, they are on the side of the homeowners, you and me. Two of our council members will be at the meeting on Thursday. There will be 3 public meetings. 1)March 6 in Bonney Lake/Lake Tapps Area; 2) PLU on March 20th, 3) Apr 3 on the Key Peninsula. We don’t have times or locations yet.
We need you to write a letter, using my letter as a guideline, to your county council person. Don’t be afraid to bring it along with you to the meeting!
Your council persons are:
Dan Roach (Bonney Lake, Lake Tapps area)
Jim McCune, (Spanaway area)
Joyce McDonald, Connie Ladenburg, Rick Talbert, Douglas Richardson and Stan Fleming.
County City Building, 10th floor, room 1046, 930 Tacoma Ave. S., Tacoma, WA 98402 253-798-7777.
My husband, Chuck Haviland, has been working with Terry Belieu and have made some proposed language changes in this shoreline management plan.
Hope to see you this Thursday at the meeting!
