Dear Councilman Roach:
Thank you so much for coming to our Spanaway Lake meeting about the Shoreline Management Plan. I am one of the concerned home owners on the lake. My house would be one of the homes that would be the label “Non Conforming” It was built in the early nineteen hundreds. Over the years I have seen many changes to our lake. Some were good and others were not. This new edition of the Shoreline Plan is one that I feel is not beneficial to our lake. The lake has many older homes that have been kept up and loved by many families. With the new additions to the plan many of these homes may not be able to acquire permits to update existing structures to make them safe and livable.
Another section of the plan that concerns me is the Buffer Zone and No Net Loss. These two sections directly impact how we use our land. We chose to live on a lake and want to enjoy all that it has to offer us. We pay higher taxes for this privilege. Most of us on the lake are good stewards of our property. We clean up after boaters who throw trash into the water. We work together to improve the quality of the lake water.
My request is that this plan should not impact us negatively. I know this is next to impossible. However, I know if we work together much can be done to lessen the impact on us as lakeside property owners. One revision which would positively affect many of the older homes is to let them stand by the code that was in place when they were built.
Thank you again for supporting us,
Sincerely,
Jessie Richards
