OOPS……….. There goes your house on Spanaway Lake, Tule, Steilacoom, American, Tapps, Kapowsin, etc. any body of water in Pierce County! Even creeks and ponds!
- All bodies of water will be subjected to new shoreline regulations from Dept. of Ecology, developed or not!
- Setbacks will no longer be the main criteria
- Buffers will be at least 75 feet and will be mandatory, perhaps more
- Most properties in Pierce County on shorelines will be in non-conformance
- How does this impact us? Banks can’t give loans on non-conforming properties, can’t get a permit for repairs or additions, all buffer areas will have to be put back into a natural state.

We’ve had a couple of meetings so far in the Spanaway area. Chuck Haviland & Terry Belieu have worked on some amendments we are hoping to have added in to the plan. We’ve had Jim McCune & Dan Roach, our councilmen attend and brief us on their views. They made some recommendations which we are passing along to you
- Let all your neighbors know about the meetings & attend them!
- Write a letter to your council person (addresses and names at the bottom)
- We have Facebook page: Pierce County Shoreline Management Information — become a friend, we will be posting updated information there!
- SAVE THE DATES! Thursday, March 6, Public Meeting Lake Tapps area
- Thursday, March 20, PLU Public Meeting
- Thursday, April 3, Key Peninsula public meeting
- Next meeting: NOTE DATE CHANGE! Spanaway Elementary School Library, upstairs! 6:30 – 8 pm, Wednesday, January 22, 2014! Invite everyone!
