SPANAWAY, WA — On Saturday night, February 1, the prime suspect in the unsolved disappearance and possible murder of Chris Virdell was shot by Pierce County Sheriff’s deputies.
Michel Borkin, 21, who was wanted on an arrest warrant in connection with a drug and identity theft case was a passenger in a red pickup truck pulled over at 174th and Pacific Ave. When the truck was stopped, Borkin sprayed deputies with bear mace. According to reports, deputies fired 3 rounds, there was a pause and a fourth round. Borkin was dead at the scene.
Sheriff Department officials are not commenting as the Virdell case is still active and open.
On Sunday February 9, 2014, the family will hold a vigil to commemorate two years since Chris’ disappearance. The vigil will begin at 4 p.m. There will be some hot water for tea and cocoa for those who stop by to pay their respects.
Of course, the greatest respect would be for the people who know something to finally speak up so the truth comes out and arrests can be made.
