The Pierce County Council had a room full of people at PLU’s Scandinavian Cultural Center Thursday for the public hearing on their rules to comply with DOE’s Shoreline Management Plan.WP_013529

Heade speaks ove the 3 minute limit to cheers

The crowd was polite, mostly stuck to their allotted times and had some very significant things to say about “their” lake.

Patrick Heade was the one who defied the 3 minute rule and continued to speak after Councilman Talbert told him his time was up. Talbert continued to ask him to stop every few second, but Heade continued to the end of his paper. Someone from the audience shouted, “You’re the only one that doesn’t want him to finish!” When Heade did finish everyone clapped and cheered.WP_013533

There was a copy of the Constitution presented and also the Declaration of Independence. Most lake property owners read their speeches and were prepared to leave copies for the council. It truly was a well prepared crowd.

At the end of the presentations, each council person spoke and all seemed to be pleased with the turnout, composure and quality of the remarks. The residents of Spanaway Lake make the community proud. They love their lake and their community.WP_013530

There is one more public hearing in a couple weeks in Gig Harbor. This one is particularly geared to aquaculture, a topic that obviously is not friendly with neighbors on the salt waterfront.
