By John Marshall, FCCCC Secretary

The Frederickson Land Use Advisory Commission (FLUAC) will hold a meeting on Monday, March 24, 2014 at 7PM. The meeting will be held at the Bethel School Dist. Offices @ 516 176th St. E.  At this meeting, County Staff will present proposed changes to the Frederickson Community Plan that would be incorporated into the County’s Comprehensive Plan Update in 2015.

According to the notice that I received, those in attendance will have the opportunity to:

#1. Ask questions about the process

#2. Provide feedback on preliminary recommendations

#3. Recommend policy/regulatory changes associated with the community plan (if applicable)

Additionally, they may allow written testimony to be sent in.

According to our existing plan dated May 1, 2003, responsible growth is the central concept of the Frederickson Community Plan. The plan is premised on the idea that through proper management of growth, the community can avoid, minimize, or mitigate many existing and future problems. Our current plan estimated that a high rate of growth was expected to occur in our community and we could expect the population to exceed 18,000 by the year 2017.

According to my recent correspondence with the U.S. Census Bureau and Shawn Phelps @ Pierce County, Frederickson’s 2010 population figures have already exceeded 21,000 so it leads me to wonder if they may propose policies and regulations to slow growth.

In conclusion, this probably will be a very important community meeting, and I hope to see you there.
