Dear Community Members of Parkland,
We are writing to you to invite you to help support an ongoing Parkland and PLU partnership called the Parkland Community Mural Project. You can donate online at http://parklandmural.wordpress.com/donate-now/.
The Parkland Community Mural, designed by PLU student Saiyare Refaei, aims to unite local artists, students, community organizations, businesses and community members to creatively and collectively tell Parkland’s story. Saiyare Refaei, a current PLU senior, has been the leader for the Parkland Community Mural and has a particular passion for street art. After studying for a semester in Oaxaca, Mexico, and returning to conduct research through a PLU Wang Grant Saiyare observed the cultural, social and economic value that murals bring to cities. We’re planning to paint the wall of the Parkland Post Office, a stones throw from PLU and one of Parklands busiest intersections, at Garfield and C St. This mural will be helpful for Pacific Lutheran and Parkland to build a better understanding of one another and create a space for our community’s narrative. Attached are photos of the blank wall and a preliminary mural design for you to view.
Whether you are a Parkland resident, a small business owner or someone who appreciates community art, you can participate in Parkland Community Mural by investing in the project.
We are seeking donations to fundraise the last $1,500 of our $10,000 goal. Painting a mural involves artist and muralist fees, painting materials, acrylic paint, wall preparation, primer, and an anti-graffiti sealant.Any additional money raised will be added to a maintenance and upkeep fund. You can donate to the mural fund online athttp://parklandmural.wordpress.com/donate-now/. Any amount you choose to donate will help!
To learn more about upcoming events and how you can be involved, please visit the Parkland Community Mural website atwww.parklandmural.wordpress.com or email us at parklandmural@gmail.com.
Best,
Saiyare Refaei and Carly Brook
