MillphotoThe opening reception for a new Immigration exhibition at the Scandinavian Cultural Center will highlight the Scandinavian Immigration to the Tacoma area and will take place on Monday, April 21st, from 4pm to 6pm. The exhibition features material drawn from the Scandinavian Immigration Experience Collection in the Archives and Special Collections of PLU, paired with objects from the Scandinavian Cultural Center Collections. The exhibition script was written by Dr. Claudia Berguson of the Norwegian Program at PLU, who brings the literary perspective to the trials and successes of Scandinavian Immigrants.Costume2

In addition to viewing the exhibition, guests to the reception will also be treated by a performance by Historic Re-enactor Karen Haas. She will embody Thea Foss, the Norwegian immigrant who founded Foss Maritime along with her husband, and was the inspiration for the film “Tug Boat Annie.”

The exhibition will remain on display through July 15th.

Open Hours at the Scandinavian Cultural Center are Tuesdays and Wednesdays 11am to 3pm and Sundays 1 to 4pm. Reduced summer hours begin at the end of May. We hope you will take this opportunity to learn more about the resources at PLU for studying the Scandinavian Immigrant Experience.
