Since running around comes naturally to kids, the Pierce County Parks and Recreation Services Department wants to take that energy and give kids a chance to race on a full-size track with a crowd of fans cheering them on.
Designed for ages 3-8, the Movin-N-Groovin Kids Fun Run – scheduled for July 31 in Lakewood – will introduce youth to the world of track-and-field while they experience the pleasure of recreational running. Since running is the basis for a lifetime of fitness and an active life, everyone comes out a winner in this fun run with a fitness twist.
Vendors will be on site at Harry Lang Stadium, 11023 Gravelly Lake Drive in Lakewood, to provide an assortment of interactive fitness activities for participants and their families. Participants can any or all three of the runs, and are advised to dress appropriately for the weather. Parks department recreation coordinators will hold an opening ceremony, conduct warm-ups and stretches for kids and families beginning at 5:00pm (followed by each of the races) and hold a closing ceremony after the last race.
Pre-register by July 24 to participate. The $8 entry fee includes all three running events, a race bib, a water bottle, a race bag, and a finisher’s medal. Registration the day of the event begins at 4 p.m. and will cost $10.
