Orange lane striping on I-5

WSDOT, FIFE – For the first time in Washington, orange contrast lane striping will be added to white lane lines in an active work zone to test whether the brightly colored paint helps improve work zone awareness and safety.

The Washington State Department of Transportation will test the new safety strategy in a work zone of the State Route 167 Completion Project in Fife, where construction crews are working in the median of Interstate 5 to build new bridges over Hylebos Creek.

Orange lane striping is scheduled for painting the night of June 7 in both directions of I-5 through Fife between milepost 138 near Wapato Way and milepost 139 near Porter Way.
