The Bethel and Franklin Pierce School District areas in unincorporated, urban Pierce County have several thousand employees between them. In addition, the military base and local medical facilities also are very large employers with hundreds of employees in the area. The streets are lined with houses and apartments. But, where are you?
We haven’t seen you at the Lions Club, or Rotary or Kiwanis. We have not seen you at Family Promise or the Clover Creek Restoration Acrion Alliance meetings. Were you at Friends of Spanaway Lake or the Frederickson Clover Creek Community Council? No? Did you rally with the Parkland Community Association last week to help make the historic school into a community services center? No?
Rumor has it, I get around a bit. Have I met you? There are a lot of people out there who are not actively involved in the organizations that are trying to improve our community. What is holding you back? I cannot imagine you love mowing your lawn and cleaning your dishes that much. At you watching Netflix in your easy chair with a cup of coffee recovering from a long week of work? Or are you buried under a pile of paperwork you cannot catch up with after you workday is done?
It cannot be that all this time you have been stuck in traffic, can it? Although that may be the best excuse of all. You are probably at the gym making up for all that seat time.
Yes, all those organizations really could use some help. Some of the same faces participate in several groups. They all could use a few more people, fresh faces to help out. The have websites, Facebook pages and are working to reach you. How can you be reached?
At the top of the Pierce Prairie Post there is a little menu, on it is a tab for a page called ORGS. The tab lists organizations that need people to carry out their community service. That is, they try to make your neighborhoods better places to live. I hope you will consider expanding your lives just a little and joining one. You will be greatly appreciated. We all would love to meet you.
Family Promise of Pierce County, Friends of Spanaway Lake and the Frederickson Clover Creek Community Council all have meetings tonight (second Thursday, March). I know I cannot make all of them, could use some helpers.
