Obituary: Roger H. Lincoln Jr.

Roger H Lincoln Jr.

December 6, 1956 – February 27, 2024

Parkland, Washington – Roger Lincoln Jr. passed away in Parkland WA February 27, 2024. Born in Tacoma to Roger and Mary, he was the 2nd of 7 children.

Growing up on Lake Spanaway, he knew every inch of the neighborhood. He enjoyed scaring his sisters during sleepouts, playing hide n seek in the neighbor’s garden and sneaking off in the boat after dark. In the summer, he was undefeated playing King of the Dock, to the frustration of the dozens of kids who tried to take him down.

He wasn’t content being proficient at the things he loved, rather he excelled. He learned to barefoot waterski, he was a certified scuba diver and pilot, he hiked and camped throughout the PNW, most often at Mount Rainier, one of his favorite places. He could name every bird, creature and plant he came across. Of his many adventures throughout his life, bicycling from Washington to the southern California boarder after high school would be a highlight.

While attending Marymount Military Academy, Rod honed his skill at the piano. He could listen to a song then play it back. He also wrote his own music. Most of all, he loved the sound of the organ at PLU and recently commented that the location of the instrument was as important to the sound as the skill in playing it.

He learned carpentry working alongside his relatives at Lincoln Construction Company. He enjoyed remodeling his home, and building furnishings and collecting things for his next projects, many of which never quite got finished.

Rod had a vivid imagination and a story for every occasion. A friend to everyone he met, he captivated his audience with his many tales, big and small.

He is survived by his mother, his sisters LaRae, Marianna, Victoria, Theresa and Jennifer, brother-in-law Ray, numerous nieces and nephews, and his longtime companion, Marianne. He is preceded in death by his father, brother Charles, and brother-in-law Ken. In addition to his big family, Rod had many lifelong friends, including classmates from the Bethel School District, all who will miss him.

A celebration of life will be held March 31, 2024, 1-4pm at El Toro Restaurant in Lakewood, WA.

[Editor Note: This was my second husband and significant other. I have been unable to keep up with local events, meetings and the PPP due to coordinating with the family for the Memorial on March 31, 2024. I also needed to be sure any publicity was approved by the family, so I was unable to publish timely, due to the constraints I have been working with this past several weeks. The memorial video is complete. Going through a lifetime of photos of my own, his, and the 5 sisters has taken a considerable amount of time. Not to mention we are all feeling the loss and very sad over this tragic death in Parkland. After the event Sunday, I can publish the video link.]

Roddy , my friend , the world just got smaller without you , the nearly sixty years since we met seem like a flash , you could be more of a pain in the ass than anyone else I ever met , but you were my friend and will remain so until we meet again . Thanks for all the great memories .
