The Pierce County Council at their August 27, 2024 meeting is set to pass budget changes and updates. Many of these changes are related to homeless villages, two of which are in Spanaway locations. One is the tiny village near Spanaway Marsh. The other is a property on 419 208th Street East.
This is an 8/27/24 3pm, County Council Meeting heads up. COVID Funds allocations are being changed in County Budget 8/27/24.
Take a look at the “Packet” for the meeting. It has the agenda and supporting materials.
Council Meeting page: August 27, 2024 Council Meeting (pierce.wa.us)
Starting with Line 25 on page 67, to page 78, the county is making modifications to Emergency shelters and other Human Services budget items from the COVID Funds that expire Dec. 31, 2024.
There is a lot of budget changes regarding shelters, homeless programs, emergency shelter services, etc. I found these lines interesting:
Section 18. All funds in the COVID-19 American Rescue Plan Fund deemed by the Finance Department to be in danger of not being obligated by December 31, 2024, are to be transferred to Rental and Utility Assistance for individuals in Pierce County at risk of being evicted. The Finance Department shall not exercise this transfer authority without the approval of the County Council. Approval by the County Council shall occur by motion or resolution.

Here is the OTHER village being proposed in Spanaway by Veterans Village LIHI SPANAWAY MANAGER LLC, the property to the north is the Doyon residence.

Project Description:
Construct a Shared Housing Village (SHV), approximately 55 sleeping units, on the northern parcel (APN 0318044098) of a two-parcel site, to be accessed through the southern parcel (APN 0318044099) fronting on 208th Street East, using an existing curb cut and an existing driveway on that southern parcel. Required parking and an emergency access vehicle turn-around would be provided on the northern parcel. ROW improvements are not anticipated along 208th Street East.
Not sure where Matt took those photos, but for comparison, here are photos I took of the tiny home village at the Orting Soldiers Home.
