Sept 7 protest and bake sale, Zoning changes

Spanaway Concerned Citizens will be having a protest sign waving and fundraising bake sale at 176th Street and Spanaway Loop Road on Saturday, September 7, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. There is not yet a decision on the appealed items from the Hearings Examiner’s office. That decision is expected very soon.

A group of the SCC were also at the Parkland Spanaway Midland Land Use Advisory meeting on Sept. 4. In that the County presented its proposal to change most of the residential land use zoning terminology and increase the densities allowed on a number of them. This is all being done without any infrastructure improvements required. The County is simply adjusting up the allowable congestion on our roads instead.

So after all the protesting comments and a lot of intense scrutiny by the LUAC members, the board voted to not support the proposal. Each LUAC in the South County is doing this review and it will still go to the Planning Commision, just with a recommendation to reject.

Here is the PSM LUAC statement:

“The Commission requests that the comprehensive plan (change) be rejected because there are too many concerns regarding infrastructure such as parks, congestion, crime, safety, schools, roads, and environment issues. The forced high density growth is harmful and against community wishes.”
