Good Neighbor Village? hmmm…

Yes, that is the newest name of the tiny home village the Tacoma Rescue Mission and the Pierce County Executive’s office is trying to build in Spanaway., “Good Neighbor Village.”

Well, wouldn’t good neighbors follow the county code when they build their operation? Apparently, like when the Mosier home was torn down, they are starting a pattern of code violations. The tear down next to Spanaway Creek was done without a silt fence to protect the creek from runoff. Several people warned the Hearings Examiner that this was not a good indication of behavior Spanaway neighbors wanted to see.

At the Environmental Conference of Saturday, September 28 at Sprinker Recreation Center, more potential violations were revealed by witnesses. Spanaway Concerned Citizens release links to the videos of construction, excavation, and a culvert replacement taking place, allegedly without proper precautions.

“Several people from Spanaway Concerned Citizens (SCC) attended the Environmental Conference at Sprinker last Saturday. Paul spoke for SCC.  He alerted county officials and the audience of the shoreline & wetland violations that have happened over the past couple weeks on Wasmund Road near the village site.  Paul spoke specifically about Spanaway Creek.  Paul & I (Lyn) took the videos that are linked below showing a machine operating its bucket just a few feet from this creek.  There are no delineated wetland or wetland buffer indicators, no silt fence (just like Tacoma Rescue Mission did at the Mosier property) and no inspections.

What they have done is shocking! We encourage each of you to visit Wasmund Road and take a look for yourself. If the gate is open you can drive right in. Today, Wednesday, they were actively digging in and around Audubon Creek!  A short video of this is linked below.

Watch these three short videos, comment on them and post links to the videos of these violations on social media.”
