Maybe we need a purple dinosaur

By Marianne Lincoln

Barney the dinosaur was a prominent feature in children’s television programming years ago. His popular theme song was also often mocked.

After the current election, there are many people who not only disagree with the winner, but also hold grave concerns about the fear and division his supporters promoted. Calling liberals names, and often talking about how to dispose of them, is not the right way to win a US Constitutional election or conduct an administration. Not everyone wins, the ones who do not have enough to deal with and deserve some respect for their situation. We do not “dance on graves” for a reason. Being the “also ran” hurts.

We are capable of disagreeing and coexisting. That was how the Constitution was designed. This is not a winner take all country. It really is more like: you got the reins, now see if you can get this team of horses to work together.

The USA is made up of a rainbow of skin colors, genders, sexualities, cultures, religions, capabilities, and mentalities. We don’t succeed by working against each other. Success is based on our ability to lift each other up. Success is not about leaving them in your dust, but about extending your hand to help them out.

At the end of the day, humanity is something we share, not something we enrich ourselves with. Try giving and helping other. Whether you are a wrestling coach, a singer, a garbageman or a corporate CEO, you will feel at your best when you extend a hand, not an epithet.

E pluribus unum.

Barney: I Love You

[Verse 1]
I love you
You love me
We’re a happy family
With a great big hug
And a kiss from me to you
Won’t you say you love me too?

[Verse 2]
I love you
You love me
We’re best friends like friends should be
With a great big hug
And a kiss from me to you
Won’t you say you love me too?
