Swedish Sankta Lucia at PLU Dec 8

Sankta Lucia is a tradition at Pacific Lutheran University. Not only do they sing songs and put on a wonderful student led program, there is actually a Lucia Bride chose who wins a scholarship. The scholarship portion is based on essays written by the participants and evaluated by a team from the Scandinavian Cultural Council. This event has been a tradition at PLU for 74 years.

After the event, there are usually traditional saffron buns, cookies, coffee, and water. There are children dressed as Tomte and Santa Tomte makes an appearance with small gifts for the participants. Everyone dances around the Christmas tree singing the Santa Lucia songs. A delightful and interactive event for the family.
